The Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham, one of the leading indoor meetings in the world, is back in 2022 with world-class athletics making a long-awaited return to Birmingham as part of the World Indoor Tour Gold series.

The event will be staged at its traditional home at Utilita Arena Birmingham on Saturday 19th February, setting the tone for an incredible year of track & field in 2022.

It is also a perfect kick-starter to a year that will see Birmingham host the Commonwealth Games from 28 July to 8 August.

It is one of the marquee events on the World Indoor Tour, which heads into its seventh season and second in a three-tier – Gold, Silver and Bronze – structure.

The Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham, first held in 2006, is one of seven Gold standard meetings and regularly attracts a glittering array of champions.

Sir Mo Farah broke the two-mile world indoor record at the meeting in 2015, and the 2019 edition was highlighted by Ethiopia’s Samuel Tefera smashing the 1500m mark.

Elaine Thompson-Herah, now four-time Olympic champion, edged out Britain’s Asha Philip to win the women’s 60m in 2019, the last time the event was staged.

Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir won the women’s Mile and fellow Tokyo medallist Holly Bradshaw prevailed in the women’s pole vault.

The Utility Arena Birmingham has a successful history of playing host to top events, hosting the World Indoor Championships in 2003 and 2018, as well as the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2007.

The event will once again prove a compelling preview to the World Athletics Indoor Championships, which will be held in Belgrade, Serbia in March.

It will be one of the earliest headline acts in an stellar year of athletics, which will include the World Athletics Championships, World Para Athletics Championships, European Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Also confirmed is the return of the UK Athletics Indoor Championships to Birmingham on the 26th & 27th February.
