EscapList: Video Game Anthems

With the news that Travis Scott will be performing a live concert within the game Fortnite, dedicating this week’s EscapList to all those bangers that have featured in computer games was a must! This’ll no doubt have you dusting off your old consoles.

Our EscapList's have gone down loads of different avenues over the last few weeks...from music to help you relax, playlists packed full of energy, a dedication to One Direction and a look at some tracks we're tipping for big things. If you'd have said at the start of this little feature that we'd be writing about songs from computer games, then I'd have laughed...but as soon as I started researching this one, well, I got stuck in a rabbit hole of absolute classic video game anthems.

The hardest thing was limiting this to just 10, but here's my favourites...

You can listen to EscapList: Video Game Anthems right here!

1. Blur - Song 2 (FIFA: Road To World Cup 98)

The fact you could play indoor 5-a-side wasn't even the best thing about this game, proves just how good Blur's Song 2 is/was!

2. The Immortal(S) - Mortal Kombat (From Mortal Kombat series)

This is just an energy oozing, palm sweating, spine-tickling computer game anthem. So, so big.

3. The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3)

This is the first of two Tony Hawk's inclusions in this week's EscapList and you can't listen to it without thinking of a Kickflip McTwist.

4. Dr Dre ft Snoop Doggy Dogg - Nuthin' But A G Thang (GTA: San Andreas)

So many to choose from for this game, but boy, this is the best of them all. Bumpin' round San Andreas blasting this. That was the life.

5. D'Angelo - May I? Stand Unshaken (Red Dead Redemption II)

One of the more recent video game soundtracks to make the list, but it's so good. Whether you've played the game or not, the country-western awe this song transmits is captivating.

6. Goldfinger - Superman (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater)

The first edition of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater came armed with this Ska banger from the legendary Goldfinger!

7. Kasabian - Club Foot (Pro Evolution Soccer 5)

There's no denying that PES had it's glory years during it's PS2 era and it never really managed to adjust or compete with FIFA when gaming changed with the introduction of the PS3 and Xbox 360...however, when loading up PES5 and you heard this boomin' out, you knew you were in for a treat!

8. DragonForce - Through The Fire And Flames (Guitar Hero)

A game packed to the brim of guitar classics, riffy materpieces and slick-hits, but the fear when faced with performing DragonForce's Through The Fire And Flames was like no other. There's no denying that this was THE hardest song to complete. Any of you lot get 100% on this? (if yes, you're lying)

9. Geek Music - Floss (Fortnite)

Now, before you shoot me down...if you heard this deep-house vibey beat outside of Fortnite, then you'd like it. You would, wouldn't you? It's just too catchy.

10. Robbie Williams - It's Only Us (FIFA 2000)

We started with a FIFA classic, so we're ending with a FIFA classic. This edition of the EA Sports phenomenon was perhaps the strangest version made to date. Players would get abducted by aliens, you could unlock Robbie Williams as a player for Port Vale and probably the weirdest thing of all, Sol Campbell was the feature professional of the front of the game. Anyway, the soundtrack was a banger and that's all that matters!
