EscapList: All Punk, No Junk

Friday marks the 19th anniversary of one of the greatest Pop Punk albums ever created, Sum 41’s All Killer, No Filler- and it got us thinking about how much we miss that glorious era of music! So spike your hair, get your baggy jeans on and grab your portable CD player. It’s time to go back to the early 00’s!

Before you get stuck into the EscapList, you'll need to step back to 2001.

Imagine this, your sat sneaking in a quick game of Snake II on your Nokia 3310, whilst your Dell PC connects to the World Wide Web via AOL dial-up. You're probably screaming at your Mom to "GET OFF THE PHONE" because it's interrupting proceedings. You're also probably wearing a band tee, some baggy jeans and possibly a pair of Etines. For the lads, you've got your hair in a mohawk or spiked up with that really sticky glunky green gel and the ladies are supporting either cornrows or you've crimped it. Tony Hawks Pro Skater is on in the background and you've just popped one of your homemade mixtapes into your portable CD player.

Life is good.

As for the mixtape you've created, chances are it sounds a bit like this...

1. Sum 41 - In Too Deep

Obviously, as it's the anniversary of All Killer No Filler, we had to kick things off with this classic from Sum 41.

2. Green Day - Basket Case

So many Pop Punk bands are heavily influenced by Green Day, so, the OG's HAVE to be featured in this EscapList!

3. blink-182 - All The Small Things

One of THE bands that defined this 00's Punk Pop era. Heroes!

4. Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

This sounds as good now as it did back then.

5. Good Charlotte - The Anthem

The Madden brothers produced some absolute bangers, but this, The Anthem is the BEST! (imo)

6. Avril Lavinge - Sk8er Boi

Not only did she change the face of Pop Punk, she also got everyone using 8's in text. H8rs gonna h8.

7. Bowling For Soup - Girl All The Bad Guys Want

Was so torn between this track and 1985, but this was the one that made the biggest splash when it was released...and it's BIG!

8. The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright

Not actually lying. I still listen to this on repeat. WHAT A SONG!

9. Fall Out Boy - Grand Theft Autumn / Where Is Your Boy

Before Sugar, We're Goin Down and Dance, Dance, Fall Out Boy were releasing the punkiest of pop music! Take this in!

10. New Found Glory - My Friends Over You

We just had to wrap up this EscapList with probably the best Pop Punk song ever created. Thanks for this one New Found Glory, we owe you one.
